• Blackberry KEY2 LE is a scaled-down KEY2 for $399

    • The BlackBerry KEY2 LE has been revealed in Berlin and is priced at $399 (around Rs 28,300). Global availability of the phone begins next month.
    • It features a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display with back-lit keyboard. The space key on the QWERTY keyboard comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor.
    • The Blackberry KEY2 LE runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery which also supports Quick Charge 3.0.
    • The new Blackberry smartphone comes with horizontally placed 13MP + 5MP dual camera setup on the rear side (with dual-tone LED flash) and an 8MP front camera.
    • Blackberry KEY2 LE is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 processor paired with Adreno 509 GPU and runs on 4 GB RAM. The device will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB storage variants.

  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 image shows slider camera; to be launched in October

    • Xiaomi’s president Lin Bin has posted an image of the upcoming Mi Mix 3 smartphone on Chinese social media platform Weibo.
    • According to Bin, the next version of the Mi Mix series will be revealed in October 2018.
    • The image posted on the platform shows a slider camera similar to the one seen on the recently launched Oppo Find X, but the mechanism of how the slider works is not known yet.
    • The Mi Mix 3 comes with a bezel-less display and the power button is seen on the left side of the display.
    • A comment on the post by Lei Jun, the founder of the company, suggests that the smartphone will go on sale by the end of October.

  • Skoda Superb Sportline launching soon in India

    • Skoda India’s official website now lists the Superb Sportline along with a ‘coming soon’ tagline.
    • The Superb Sportline is an enthusiast oriented variant of the premium saloon, which has a sports chassis that lowers its ride height by 15 mm versus the standard model.
    • Special aesthetic changes on the Superb Sportline include glossy black treatment on the grille, ORVMs, window frames, etc. There are also bespoke 18-inch inch wheels, a different exhaust pipe setup and a vivid red colour which grant the car a sportier vibe.
    • On the inside, the Skoda Superb Sportline comes with sports seats, aluminium pedals and a sports steering wheel. The cabin is pained jet black instead of the two-tone treatment on the regular Superb.
    • The Superb Sportline is the sportiest iteration of the Superb globally as the car does not come in the full-blown RS variant. Expect the Super Sportline to continue with the 1.8-litre TSI and 2.0-litre TDI engines when it goes on sale in India.

  • 2018 iPhones leaked; to be revealed on September 12

    • Apple’s event where new iPhones are expected to be launched is going to be held on September 12, 2018, at Steve Jobs Theater, in Cupertino, California. The event will start at 10 am (PDT).
    • The company is expected to launch three new iPhones including a cheaper variant of iPhone X with 6.1 inch LCD display, an upgraded version with 5.8-inch OLED display and a high end device with 6.5-inch OLED display (the latter two are seen in the leak).
    • Apple is also expected to launch a new Apple watch and upgraded iPad Pro.
    • Rumors suggest that the new iPhones might come in various ‘unconventional’ colors and the company might remove 3D touch from of the variants of the newly launched iPhones.
    • It’s unclear weather the expected redesigned MacBook Air and Mac mini will be launched at the event on September 12.

  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class facelift India launch on September 20

    • According to reports, the updated Mercedes C-Class will launch in India on September 20, 2018.
    • The highlight of the C-Class facelift are its new engines. There’s a brand new 1.5-litre turbo petrol with EQ Boost micro-hybrid tech that makes 181bhp. The diesel is also an all-new 2.0-litre unit that’s good for pumping 190bhp.
    • Both engines are more powerful than their predecessors and come mated to a 9-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.
    • Aesthetically, the Mercedes C-Class facelift gains subtle styling tweaks in the form updated headlights and new LED signature for the tail lamps. Then, there are redesigned bumpers and new alloy wheels.
    • On the inside, the C-Class facelift will get a newly designed steering wheel, a 12.3-inch display for instrument console and a new 10.2-inch infotainment screen.

  • Sony Xperia XZ3 debuts with curved OLED display

    • The new Sony Xperia XZ3 has been revealed at IFA 2018 in Berlin. The phone brings many firsts for a Sony smartphone.
    • First up is that curved OLED display. The Samsung-esque screen is a 6-inch QHD+ HDR unit with 18:9 aspect ratio. As with previous Sony phones, Triluminos and X-Reality optimisation technology comes standard.
    • The curved screen also debuts a new design aesthetic for XZ series. It is still sports a glass sandwich construction though, thanks to which wireless charging comes standard. IP65/68 rating is also retained.
    • Internals of the Xperia XZ2 are mostly borrowed from the XZ2. There’s a Snapdragon 845 SoC with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM (memory card slot is also there). However, the hardware now sports new tap based gestures.
    • Contrary to speculations, the Xperia XZ3 continues with a single 19MP f/2.0 camera at the rear from the XZ2, however, going with the trend, Sony has incorporated a host of new AI tech in the camera for better photography. Front has a new 13MP f/1.9 selfie cam.

  • Lexus RC facelift revealed

    • The Lexus RC sports coupe has received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2019 model year. The facelifted model will be showcased for the first time at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
    • Being a facelift, the 2019 Lexus RC gains new Lexus LC inspired headlights, revised grille, new colors and redesigned alloys.
    • On the inside, Lexus has given the RC higher quality materials, easier to use controls, up to six upholstery colour options and larger knee pads for better comfort.
    • While any updates given to the engines aren’t known as yet, Lexus has surely improved the car dynamically. The 2019 RC gets a fine tuned suspension, gripper tyres and enhanced aerodynamics thanks to its fin-shaped glasshouse and new air ducts.
    • Lexus currently does not sell the RC in India. However, since the company imports all of its cars to India, it should not be too hard for it to bring the 2019 model here.

  • Xiaomi Redmi 6 series India launch on September 5

    • Xiaomi India has confirmed that the Redmi 6, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 Pro will launch on September 5, 2018.
    • The Redmi 6 has 5.45-inch HD+ display, MediaTek Helio P22 chipset, dual rear camera setup (12MP + 5MP), 5MP front camera and a 3,000mAh battery.
    • The Redmi 6A is the entry level version of the series with a slightly downgraded hardware. It sports a MediaTek Helio A22 chipset and a single 13MP rear camera. Other specs remain similar to the Redmi 6.
    • The Redmi 6 Pro, which is the fully loaded variant, gets 5.84-inch FHD+ notched screen, Snapdragon 625 SoC and a 4,000mAh battery. Both front and rear cameras are same as the Redmi 6.
    • The Redmi 5 series has been immensely popular among the Indian audience. If priced on par with the former, the Redmi 6 series will also likely be a success.

  • Google revamps Wear OS

    • The Wear OS, formerly Android Wear, has undergone a major redesign which focuses on improved usability and better Google Assistant integration.
    • First up is the new notification menu that’s simpler and has more features. It now uses swipe gestures for easier navigation and access to shortcuts like Google Pay.
    • Google Assistant on the improved Wear OS is now capable of giving you information related to your travel such as flight timings, road traffic, hotel reservations, weather updates, etc.
    • Then, the Google Health app is also better integrated. It sports new ‘Heart Points’ and ‘Move Minutes’ features, which have been developed with American Heart Association and the World Health Organization.
    • Google has been long rumoured to launch the Pixel Watch alongside the Pixel 3 smartphones on October 9, 2018. Such a revamp of the Wear OS indicate that the rumours might be true after all.

  • Mahindra Marazzo exposed before September 3 launch

    • Latest spy photos have fully revealed the upcoming Mahindra Marazzo MPV’s front and rear profiles.
    • While official teasers gave us a fair idea of the Marazzo’s design, these spy shots confirm that the upcoming MPV will sport Mahindra’s characteristic grille flanked by LED headlamps. The LED daytime running lights will surround the triangular fog lamps.
    • At the rear, the Mahindra Marazzo features a rather clean look. However, to spice things up a bit, there is a thick chrome applique just below the windshield which connects the high-set tail lights.
    • The interior of the Marazzo has already been digitally unveiled before. It features a clutter-free look and a 7.0-inch infotainment system below the AC vents.
    • The Marazzo, which will rival the Toyota Innova Crysta, is reported to be powered by a newly developed 1.5-litre turbo engine which should produce around 120 bhp of power.
